Meet Matt, Greenwell Farms Tour Guide

Greenwell Farms provides farm tours led by expert guides who share the rich history and craft behind producing Greenwell Farms 100% Kona Coffee. Meet Matt, he will give you a taste of the farm in a brief interview below.  

Aloha, welcome to Greenwell Farms, this is a fifth-generation family farm and we specialize in 100% Kona Coffee.  My name is Matt and I am one of the guides here.

What’s your favorite place on the farm?

One of the really cool places on the farm is what we call old trees or affectionately Grandma’s trees.  These 2 acres of coffee trees were planted between 1900 and 1903, that makes many of these trees, this year, a hundred and twenty years old.  Even though they’re over a hundred years old, she had flowers on her a couple of weeks ago, she has little coffee berries growing on her nodes, she’s still alive and well, even though she doesn’t make a lot of coffee she’s still productive after all of these years.

What’s a question you are frequently asked?

A lot of people do ask me what is the best way to brew their coffee.   What we tell them of course there is…it’s not just one way.  There are many different ways to brew your coffee, Chemex, French Press, AeroPress, hand pour, percolator, and each one produces a slightly different result so getting to know the various methods of brewing your coffee should be one of the joys of enjoying your specialty coffee.

What’s your favorite Greenwell Farms product?

There are a lot of products that I love at the farm here but my favorite coffee is definitely Peaberry. I’m a light roast drinker. I like the more delicate coffees, but Peaberry is elegant, its naturally sweet, it has a lot of subtle nuance and complexity. It is like sipping a very fine wine so definitely. I’m a huge fan of the Peaberry coffee.
